“Promoting Your Broadcast - Getting An Audience”
Just because you put up a web page doesn’t mean anyone is going to visit. The cruel fact is that there are lots of people with web pages making it hard to get noticed, so if you want people to come to yours you have to promote it. There are many types of marketing approaches that apply to the spectrum of business enterprises, and many of them will apply to you, whatever it is that you do. And they range from very simple to very expensive.
Here are some general approaches that cost little or nothing:
- Talk it up among your friends, family, and associates
- Post bulletins at local grocery stores, laundromats, libraries, churches and other public places
- Send emails to everyone you can, and ask them to forward your email to anyone they know who might be interested
- There are 20,000 NetNews discussion forums on the Internet, plus similar forums on AOL, MSN, and Yahoo. There is a forum on every topic of discourse known to man. Explore and post messages on forums related to your web site.
- Visit web sites that are similar to yours, as many as you can. See if you can leave a message or send an email to the operator, and ask if they will post a message about your site, or if they will exchange links.
- Put a notice on your web site asking visitors to refer you to their friends or mention your site on their own site.
Keep plugging at it, a few hours a week. Give it time. If you have something interesting to offer and you work at developing an audience, you can be successful.
