Internet Broadcaster Requirements for Live Webcasting
- Acquire the music and be responsible for copyright and royalty-related compliance (click on this link to see our page on “Digital Rights Compliance for Internet Broadcasting”)
- Provide a dedicated PC:
- Pentium IV or equivalent running at at least 2.8 GHz
- 512 MB of RAM memory or more
- Ethernet network access
- Windows 2000 or Windows XP
- A minimum available uplink speed of 100 kbps (kilobits per second) for audio or 500 kbps for video on a high speed, always-on Internet connection is required - these connections are commonly available as:
- Cable modem service from your cable-TV operator
- DSL service from your phone provider (note that uplink speeds are commonly limited to 128 kbps – ask your vendor)
- T-1 service from your phone provider (normal T1 uplink speed is 1,544 kbps, but you may have a partial T1 with slower speeds – if in doubt, ask your vendor)
- Install remote access software (pcAnywhere or UltraVNC at no cost) (this gives us the ability to remotely access your computer for setup and maintenance)
- Install anti-virus software
- Put a “Listen Live” button on your web site – we give you the code for the button – it’s very easy to set up
- You will need Microsoft Windows encoding/streaming software (included with the setup)
- You do not need a static IP address
